Terms of use
Last updated 7 November 2026.
Who we are
Allocatur is operated by Allocatur in Cape Town, South Africa (“we”). These terms apply to the Allocatur web application and website. By using an Allocatur account you agree to them.
The service
Allocatur drafts bills of costs and lists of objections from documents you upload, pricing attendances at the published court tariffs by date, and exports the result as Word documents. The drafts are proposals for your review. Allocatur is a drafting tool, not a legal practitioner, and nothing it produces is legal advice.
Your responsibility
- You review every line before it is served. The attorney who certifies the bill under item E3 of the Rule 70 tariff remains responsible for its contents.
- You confirm that you are entitled to upload the documents you upload and to process the personal information they contain.
- You keep your sign-in email secure and do not share your account.
Accounts and invitations
Accounts are created by invitation. We may decline or withdraw an invitation. You may close your account at any time by asking us; your matters and files are then deleted. An unlocked bill stays open to you for as long as your account exists. If we ever close the service we will give at least sixty days’ notice so that you can export your bills first.
Payment
- Each bill is unlocked by a once-off payment at the price shown when you pay, or by a free bill credited to your account. Payments are processed by Paystack.
- An unlocked bill includes a fixed number of model runs over the file, stated on the bill page, plus unlimited editing and all exports. Prices are shown in rand; whether VAT is added is stated at payment.
- A run that fails is not counted. If no run succeeds on a bill you paid for, we refund the payment on request. The free first bill applies to the first bill or list of objections you unlock, in either court.
- Prices may change; a change never applies to a bill already unlocked.
Tariffs and accuracy
We load tariff amounts from the Government Gazette and test them against real bills, and we price work before the earliest loaded tariff as unpriced rather than guessing. We do not promise that any bill will be allowed as drawn. Taxation is at the Taxing Master’s discretion.
Acceptable use
Do not use Allocatur to process documents you have no right to process, to attempt to access other accounts’ data, or to interfere with the service. We may suspend an account that does.
Data
How we store and process your data is set out in the privacy notice, which forms part of these terms.
Liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for loss arising from the use of a draft that was not reviewed, from amounts taxed off a bill, or from interruption of the service. Our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded under South African law, including under the Consumer Protection Act where it applies.
Changes and law
We may update these terms; the date above changes when we do, and continued use after a change is acceptance of it. These terms are governed by the law of the Republic of South Africa.
